Visit the museum

The Silver Creek Museum is a not-for-profit educational museum preserving Freeport-area and American history. Its 28 rooms are filled with artifacts and displays from everyday life, local industry and transportation.

The museum is generally open on the same dates as the Silver Creek & Stephenson Railroad. Tickets are available at the railroad depot on operating days.

What you'll find

Historic club brochures also document period-house rooms, Rawleigh displays, vintage wedding clothing, military uniforms, past show-queen dresses, a Veterans’ Room, a basement Farm Museum and a large Freeport mural by Vicki Crone. These descriptions are preserved as part of the museum's history and should be confirmed before being presented as current exhibits.

The museum building

The museum occupies the former Stephenson County Home. The site's documented history reaches back to the county's nineteenth-century poor farm and the later county home, before the Antique Engine Club acquired the building and opened the Silver Creek Museum in 1989.
